Pillory

It was built in granite in the in the end of the 15th century. It represented power, as well as a symbol of municipal independence. It was also used to punish criminals. On one side, it has a shield with the royal coat of arms; and on the other side, a fishing net that Queen Leonor of Lencastre gave to the town in memory of the loss of her son, the Royal prince Afonso, representing the fishing net in which the fishermen brought the body of her only son who died in a hunting accident.
